Pupil Premium Grant Funding

he pupil premium is additional funding given to publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the attainment gap between them and their peers.

The Government believes that this additional funding is the best way to address the current underlying inequalities between children eligible for free school meals (FSM) and their peers, by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most.  It is also allocated for children who have been in looked-after care for 6 months or more.

How Pupil Premium Funding is allocated

The Pupil Premium provides funding for pupils:

* who have been in receipt of free school meals (FSM) at any point in the past 6 years (£1320 per primary pupil)

* who have been continuously looked after for the past six months (£1900 per child)

* who are adopted from care under the Adoption and Children Act 2002 or who have left care under a Special Guardianship or Residence Order (£2,300)

* for children whose parents are currently serving in the armed forces, or whose parent /guardian is in receipt of a pension from the MoD (£300 per child)

The amount of Pupil Premium funding is based on eligible pupils at the time of the school census in the previous January.

How We Use Pupil Premium Funding

We use the pupil premium funding to provide direct and in-direct support to ensure the rapid progress of pupils.  This support includes:

  • High quality teaching and intervention where necessary to ensure Pupil Premium pupils are attaining at least in line with other pupils nationally at the end of Key Stage 1.

  • The focused support to benefit  the emotional well-being of Pupil Premium pupils

  • Additional intervention and support to ensure Pupil Premium pupils attend school regularly and on time.
